OUTSIDE BURNING/FIRE DANGER DAY
Did you know that you need a permit to burn brush? State laws require every person intending to burn brush/yard debris to obtain a written fire permit from the Forest Fire Warden (or his designee) in the town where the fire will be kindled. The NH Department of Forest and Lands requires the permittee to be at least 18 years of age, restricts the diameter of brush/wood to 5 inches in diameter, prohibits the use of fuels to start a fire, requires the fire to be attended at all times, and requires all fires be completely extinguished. Conditions permitting, fires may only be kindled with a permit between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. unless it is actually raining. If you have questions or would like to obtain a permit, please contact Warden Michael Roina (562-5258), Deputy Warden Joe O'Brien (588-4074), Deputy Warden Chester Heinzman (562-6046), or Deputy Warden Allan Wilson (533-1153). You must also call one of the Wardens to obtain permission to burn brush when raining.
Anytime it is windy and/or anytime the Fire Danger Day is predicted to be a class 3 or higher, Bennington Forest Fire Wardens will not issue permits. The State of New Hampshire Division of Forests and Lands predicts the Fire Danger every day.
